"My child was clumsy, not sociable, and wasn't meeting standard milestones by the age of 4. The doctors at NeuroWorks showed a clear path toward stimulating the brain in the right way so that she could start meeting milestones." ~Happy Mom

In today's society, we expect to meet children with ADHD, Autism, and other alphabet soup diagnoses. It's common.

That does not, however, make it normal.

Why are so many kids being labeled with these sensory or learning differences? What has changed since 1981 or 1991? Is it our food supply? Environmental toxins? Genetics? Better diagnostic criteria? All of the above?

We cannot truly answer that broad question, as a lot of variables have changed. Minus genetics, many things have created a toxic world - food, cars, population, etc. Genetics have not had time to change that drastically, so they won't often get the accurate blame.

One thing has remained fairly consistent, however. Birth Trauma.

Whether it's infertility, maternal anxiety, birth interference, or a multitude of other factors, birth is one of the most traumatic events in our lives. Our little brains and nervous systems don't respond well to birth trauma, and sometimes it leaves a lasting impression.

For example, we know that ADHD and Autism is higher among children who are born to a parent with Hashimoto's. We also know that low birth weight and lack of oxygen are both associated with Autism.  We know that using IVF can be linked to ADHD. We know that using forceps during birth can increase the stress placed on the upper neck of a baby.

These are all examples of how early exposure, stress, and trauma can be linked to childhood concerns, namely poor neurological health. The child is not able to grow efficiently when the nervous system has interference.

So what do we do about it?

From an educational perspective, we teach kids how to hold a pencil, create accommodations for learning, and consider tutors. From an occupational therapy perspective, we teach kids how to button shirts, write their name, and share. In physical therapy, we strengthen muscles and correct balance.

At NeuroWorks Wellness Center, we would argue that you have to start at neurological integration before any of these other tactics can work. Through brain-based chiropractic care and functional neurology, we can train the brain by laying down correct neural pathways. We start at the beginning of brain maturity and work up to executive function. We truly get to the root cause of why your child is not developing as she should.

Take a look at the pyramid below. Most therapists start in the middle. We start at the foundation. Through specific, low-force chiropractic care and primitive reflex integration, we can stimulate the nervous system so that your child calms down, starts to learn easier, and has less sensory overload.

If you are ready to help your child develop properly, with a mature nervous system, schedule a discovery call today. We want to partner with you in their health and help you navigate the world of childhood alphabet soup.
